In the short journey from Dublin to Bergamo, we learned the basics, Ciao, como stai, benvenuto. We were filled with excitement.
As soon as we arrived at the airport in Bergamo and were greeted by the most amazing weather we knew that we were in for an awesome weekend. Our day started at 07.30 on the 1st of July 2017 in Bergamo with a nice Italian espresso. It wasn’t long into the bride’s preparation for the tears to start rolling down. The bride had a special picture of her late grandparents and her grandmother’s ring which she held as she was getting ready. I found it very hard to contain the tears.
Cristiana decided to have a first look with her mother and father and that surely was very emotional indeed. The groom was a few kilometres away getting ready with his future father in law. He seemed very calm as if he had waited for this one moment his entire life. The bride and groom had an intimate first look that only lasted 20 minutes but could well have lasted forever.
The ceremony was held at the Bergamo city hall. Friends and family travelled from all over the world to be there. It started at 11:45 with an incredible 30C, it was a small room that brought everyone even closer. People that had not seen or spoken to each other in years were having a laugh. As the I DO’s were being said and the coming together of two nationalities (Bride is Italian and the groom is Brazilian). There really wasn’t a dry eye in sight.
After the ceremony, everyone left for the reception in the most beautiful town of Brescia. The guests were greeted with cold Prosecco and truly Italian appetisers. Of course, Brazilian style churrasco (BBQ) cooked by the father of the bride was on the list. This showed how united this family had become and the mix of nationalities only added to the day. There were flowers and balloons hanging, pallet tables and cushions on the floor. A mix of Italian and Brazilian songs, loud laughs and chats in various different languages, and children running and playing freely in the sun. It was a relaxed, full of emotion day, where young and old had just as much fun. The day was brought to an end close to midnight. The bride and groom looked as though they could live that one day forever and we would happily capture every minute over and over again.
